#PETALUMA PROUD of the 2019 Police Officer of the Year

Police Officer Steven Cummings has been named 2019’s Police Officer of the Year by the City of Petaluma AND the 2019 Sonoma County Law Enforcement Officer of the Year by the Sonoma County Law Enforcement Chief’s Association.

Officer Cummings has earned these accolades for his exemplary performance during two incidents in 2019. The first, in August, involved a residential neighborhood disturbance and resulted in two commendations of duty.

One month later, Officer Cummings went above and beyond the call of duty when an individual suffering from a mental-health crisis doused himself with gasoline in the Petaluma Valley Hospital emergency room. Officer Cummings risked his own personal safety to apprehend the man, preventing serious injury to everyone on scene, including hospital staff and patients.
