Brian Barnacle

Brian Barnacle is a fourth generation Petaluman who grew up on a farm in West Petaluma with his mother, father and sisters. His father was a union carpenter and my mother worked for State Farm in their large loss fire division.

Brian graduated from Petaluma High School, then went to Santa Rosa Junior College for three years and worked at Kval Machinery, a multi-generational Petaluma business. He graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2009 with a degree in City Planning and has worked in the clean energy industry for the last 15 years.

Brian lives with his wife, Gretchen, and their daughter, Sierra Jane. In his free time, he enjoys supporting local musicians and restaurants, getting out for a walk outdoors, and spending time with his family and friends.

Brian was elected to the Petaluma City Council in 2020 and was seated in January of 2021. Since joining the council, Brian has been committed to making Petaluma an inclusive city where people can grow up, raise a family, and grow old—a welcoming city for all ages, ethnicities, and incomes.

Be it housing and homelessness, mobility and safe streets, parks and recreation, open space protection, emergency services, social justice, or economic vitality, Brian prides himself on bringing a positive attitude and fresh perspective that moves Petaluma forward.

In addition to serving on the City Council, Brian has served on the following bodies:
