In December of 2020, a possible attempted kidnapping at Michaels craft store was reported to our Petaluma Police Department. After gathering evidence, the PD launched an investigation into this incident.

Any potential threat to the safety of our community will always receive a thorough, fair, and impartial investigation by our PPD that seeks facts supported by evidence. The findings of these investigations are then submitted to the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office for review for criminal charges.

Yesterday, the District Attorney charged the woman who reported the attempted kidnapping with providing false information to a police officer and to a police dispatcher.*

The City of Petaluma supports the District Attorney’s decision and hopes for a swift resolution and closure for Sadie and Eddie Martinez and their family.
