City of Petaluma Designated as Official Coast Guard City
The honor recognizes cities with deep ties to the United States Coast Guard, America’s premier maritime law enforcement agency.
April 13, 2025 — The City of Petaluma is proud to announce that it has been officially designated as a United States Coast Guard City, an honor reserved for municipalities that
demonstrate extraordinary support for Coast Guard personnel and their families. This federal designation, awarded through congressional authorization and approved by the Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard, will become official on April 13, 2025.
The Coast Guard City designation recognizes the strong and longstanding relationship between the City of Petaluma and Training Center Petaluma (TRACEN), one of the Coast Guard’s premier training facilities. Since its founding in 1971, TRACEN has been an integral part of the Petaluma community, and the City has proudly supported its service members and their families through community partnerships, emergency collaboration, volunteerism, and civic engagement.
“Being named a Coast Guard City is an incredible honor for Petaluma,” said City Manager Peggy Flynn. “This designation reflects decades of partnership between our city and the Coast Guard, and formalizes the deep respect and appreciation we have for the service members who live, work, and train here.”
The Coast Guard City program, established by Congress in 1998, seeks to formally recognize cities that go above and beyond in supporting Coast Guard personnel and fostering community ties. Petaluma now joins a select group of cities nationwide with this distinction.
Petaluma will celebrate the official designation during the City’s beloved Butter and Egg Days Parade on April 19, 2025, with a special announcement during the parade honoring the Coast Guard and its contributions to the community.
