Hello Petaluma Neighbors,
As we continue to welcome the vibrant energy of spring, there’s no shortage of exciting developments and events blossoming throughout our city. From improvements in how we move around town to fresh recreational spaces, upcoming cultural celebrations, and opportunities to engage with local traditions, Petaluma is buzzing with activity.
In this week’s update, we’re sharing the latest on a new traffic feature designed with safety and flow in mind, accessibility upgrades downtown, ways to support a cherished summer staple, community festivals on the horizon, and some changes around a familiar local landmark. Whether you’re an art lover, a pickleball enthusiast, or just looking for fun ways to connect, there’s something for everyone.
Let’s dive into what’s new and noteworthy around town!
Introducing Fairgrounds Pickleball!
Big things are happening at the Petaluma Fairgrounds! We’ve launched a Pickleball Pilot Program inside Bianchi’s Barn – a new community recreational space that’s both age-friendly and multi-use.
We’re testing out 3 removable sport-tile pickleball courts in Bianchi Barn – a formerly underused space now upgraded with a new concrete floor for safe, year-round use. These courts are perfect for casual, community play, and can be taken down quickly to support big events like the annual Fair.
This isn’t a permanent solution (yet!) – it’s part of our effort to expand recreation at the Fairgrounds while keeping the space flexible for other programming like Ballet Folklorico and Live Oak’s dance classes. Covered spaces are in high demand, and we’re exploring how this area can serve more activities, especially during rainy months.
Play Details:
- Open now through May 30 (dawn to dusk)
- Recreational play level – not for leagues
- Expect a few quirks in bounce due to the temporary tile surface and drainage grates
- Public restrooms nearby at Behrens Park
We want your feedback! This is a community-first effort – and we’re excited to hear from you! Your feedback will help us shape future programming for fall and beyond.
Special thanks to Petaluma Fairgrounds Pickleball Group for sponsoring equipment, helping with setup, and spreading the word!
Apply for a Committee, Commission, or Board!
Are you passionate about Petaluma and want to make a meaningful impact in your community? Now’s your chance to get involved! Applications opened Monday, April 14, and will close on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.
Petaluma’s Commissions, Committees, and Boards (CCBs) are an essential part of how our local government stays connected to the community. These groups provide valuable insight and guidance on key issues, helping City Council make decisions that reflect the needs and priorities of Petalumans.
By serving on a CCB, you’ll work alongside fellow residents to review policies, provide feedback on important projects, and ensure that a wide range of voices are heard at the decision-making table. It’s a meaningful way to contribute to the well-being and future of our city.
We’re looking for community members who care deeply about Petaluma—its people, neighborhoods, and future. If that sounds like you, we encourage you to apply and bring your experience and perspective to the conversation.
Visit our website to learn more and submit your application: https://cityofpetaluma.org/ccbs.
The City Council will review applications and make appointments at the City Council Regular Meeting on Monday, June 16, 2025. Let’s work together to help Petaluma grow stronger, together.
Sponsor the Petaluma Fair!
Would you like to see your business’s name displayed at the Fairgrounds during the Petaluma Fair as 40,000 people gather for this beloved annual event?
With the Fair less than two months away, we are excited to invite local businesses to help bring the event to life. The City of Petaluma and the 4th District Agricultural Association are partnering to make this celebration of our agricultural heritage the best it’s ever been – with the same traditional livestock and still exhibits you remember, and a renewed focus on what makes Petaluma the best little City in the world.
Check out our new Sponsorship brochure at our website HERE to find out how you can be a part of the action, showcasing your business on the Main Stage or proudly featured as a Presenting Sponsor on Fair materials all over the City.

Downtown Accessibility Improvements Starting April 28
Starting Monday, April 28, City crews will begin work on two small but important accessibility improvement projects in the downtown area. The first involves upgrading the ADA parking spaces in the A Street parking lot to ensure they meet current standards. In addition, new accessible curb ramps will be installed just south of the A Street lot entrance on Fourth Street and at the Keller Street parking lot.
This work is scheduled to take approximately three days to complete. Nearby businesses have already been notified, and outreach will continue throughout the week to keep everyone informed of any temporary impacts.
While construction is underway, please expect minor disruptions in the immediate area. We appreciate your patience as we continue working to make our downtown more inclusive and accessible for all.
Upcoming Construction at D Street & Windsor Drive
Heads up, Petaluma! Construction is underway at the D Street & Windsor Drive intersection as part of the Scott Ranch project by Davidon Homes. This project includes new homes, trails, and a new roundabout to improve safety and ease traffic flow.
Roundabout construction will begin in May 2025 and should wrap up by the end of fall. During construction, traffic control measures will be in place for safety. Every effort will be made to minimize impacts to traffic, but delays are possible – especially during peak hours. Residents will have access to driveways at all times.
Thanks for your patience as we work to improve our roadways!

Irrigate Efficiently this Spring
As temperatures rise and summer approaches, so does your outdoor water use, mostly on lawns and landscapes. Below are a few ways you can use water more efficiently:
- If you need to irrigate, set it to run in the early morning or evening to beat day time evaporation. Experts estimate that 50 percent of the water we use outdoors goes to waste from evaporation, wind, or runoff due to overwatering.
- Inspect your irrigation systems: Fix leaks and broken or clogged sprinkler heads or drip emitters. Make sure you’re watering the landscape, not the sidewalk, street, or driveway.
For help identifying leaks, adjusting irrigation timers, and guidance on how to use water efficiently outdoors, schedule a free Water-Wise HouseCall by calling (707) 778-4507.
