The City of Petaluma is delighted to announce the public release of the Draft Land Use Policy Framework!
The Draft Land Use Policy Framework is one of fourteen Policy Frameworks that outlines proposed goals, policies, and actions by key topics to inform the development of Petaluma’s General Plan update.
The Land Use Framework defines how the city will evolve over the next 20 years including where we live, work, shop and play. It includes strategies that:
- Expand open space and access to the Petaluma River
- Reimagine a land use pattern that prioritizes active transportation – people walking, biking and using public transportation
- Support new and innovative housing types within city limits and near transit hubs
- Enhance existing neighborhoods by increasing easy access to daily needs
- Revitalize key commercial corridors
- Accommodate Petaluma’s growing and ever-changing needs for high quality housing that is affordable, a thriving local economy, and places for community gathering
- Preserve Petaluma’s historic, agricultural, river-oriented identity.
Earlier this summer at the General Plan Fest, at public meetings with the City’s Committees, Commissions, and Boards, and through the online feedback form, we received valuable feedback from the community on the other 13 frameworks. We are now asking for your thoughts on the Land Use Framework!
How Can I Give My Feedback?
Join us at one of two community open houses. The same material will be presented at both workshops:
- Saturday, September 21 10-1pm @ Beverly Wilson Hall at the Fairgrounds
- Wednesday, September 25 5-8pm @ The Lucchesi Community Center

- Complete our online feedback form HERE
- The online feedback form will close on September 30, 2024, which marks the close of public engagement on the Land Use Policy Framework. Thank you for taking the time to shape the future of our community!

How can I get materials in translation?
Please email [email protected] to receive materials in different languages and to request interpretation services at one of the community open houses.
The Land Use Framework will be agendized for discussion at feedback at from the Planning Commission and General Plan Advisory Committee, including:
- August 27th: Planning Commission
- September 10th: Planning Commission
- September 19th: General Plan Advisory Committee
