And for our first feature, we went back to where it all began: the Petaluma egg!
Tucked away along the 101 on Transport Way you will find one of Petaluma’s hidden treasures, Skippy’s Egg Store. Home of “The Best Eggs in Town for the Best Price.”
Judy Mahrt, a 5th generation poultry farmer, and Steve Mahrt, a 3rd generation poultry farmer established Petaluma Farms in 1983. Their egg brands include Judy’s Family Farm, Uncle Eddie’s and Petaluma Pastures. The farm has long been innovative, becoming one of the first farms in Northern California to offer cage-free, certified organic and certified humane eggs. Today, their four sons work alongside their parents at the farm. Jordan and Jeremy work the chicken ranch, and Jonathon and Justin focus on egg processing.
Skippy’s Egg Store operated from the farm since the 1970’s and moved into town 15 years ago. There, the Mahrt Family offer “Chips”, slightly cracked and completely usable, farm-fresh eggs at incredible prices by the 2.5 dozen flat. The Egg Store also offers bulk goods and a variety of local products including Strauss, Clover, Marin Kombucha, Rosa Dairy, and Mary’s Chicken.
“Skippy’s has always been about providing an affordable local staple. We offer organic and cage free eggs. Everyone gets a local option at an affordable price,” shares Justin Mahrt. Fundada en 1983 por Judy Mahrt, avicultora de quinta generación, y Steve Mahrt, avicultor de tercera generación, Petaluma Farms cuenta con sus propias marcas de huevos, incluyendo Judy’s Family Farm, Uncle Eddie’s y Petaluma Pastures. La granja lleva mucho tiempo siendo pionera y se convirtió en una de las primeras granjas del norte de California en ofrecer huevos de gallinas libres de jaulas, certificados como orgánicos y como humanitarios.
