Employee Leave
Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and California Family Rights Act
The City shall provide family and medical care leave for eligible employees as required by City policy, state and federal law and as specifically provided in the Federal Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA) and the California Family Rights Act of 1993 (CFRA). If possible, employees must provide thirty (30) days advance notice of leave.

Note: The City of Petaluma does not pay into State Disability Insurance (SDI), so this program is not available to City of Petaluma employees.
Pregnancy Disability Leave
The City shall provide pregnancy disability leave (PDL) for eligible employees as required by City policy and applicable state law and as specifically provided in the Fair Employment and Housing Act and the Family Medical Leave Act. If possible, employees must provide thirty (30) days advance notice of leave.

Paid Parental Leave
The City of Petaluma understands how important it is for employees to be able to have access to paid time off, while taking time off to bond with their new child(ren). As such, the City offers eligible employees Paid Parental Leave to use after the following eligible events:
- Birth of a child and/or bonding with a child of the employee, the employee's spouse, or the employee's domestic partner;
- Placement of a child with the employee's family for adoption.
