Medicare

Medicare is a federal health insurance program for individuals age 65 and older; individuals under age 65 with certain disabilities; or with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). Medicare consists of four pars, each covering specific services:

  • Medicare Part A (Hospital)
  • Medicare Part B (Medical)
  • Medicare Part C (Medicare Advantage plans)
  • Medicare Part D (Prescription Drugs)

The Social Security Administration (SSA) oversees Medicare eligibility and enrollment.

HICAP

The Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) provides free, confidential one-on-one counseling and assistance to individuals and their families on Medicare. HICAP counselors can help with enrollment, comparing plans, and more. HICAP also offers free, educational presentations/events on a variety of Medicare and other health insurance related topics. Get free, unbiased and objective Medicare information, advocacy and technical assistance. There are many ways to get more help:

 

SENIOR ADVOCACY SERVICES (SAS)

Get free, personalized support for Medicare. Available for residents of Sonoma, Solano, Napa, Marin, Mendocino, and Lake Counties. You can call SAS at (707) 526-4108 or schedule an appointment by visiting their website.

 

MEDICARE

You can call Medicare at (800) 633-4227 for help, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, or you can visit the Medicare website.

 

SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION (SSA)

You can call the SSA at (800) 772-1213 for information about Medicare enrollment, or you can visit the SSA Medicare website.
