Petaluma Aquatics Replastering Project

The Petaluma Swim Center Pool Replastering project is underway! Both pools at the Swim Center are in need of replastering – a process that involves draining the pool then applying a new layer of plaster to the interior surface. Replastering not only gives the pool a fresh, clean look, it also:

• Provides improved safety and comfort with a smoother surface
• Increases cleanliness by removing cracks and crevices where algae can grow
• Prevents future water leaks and minimize pool closures for additional repair work
• Helps maintain the structural longevity of the pools and extends their lifespans
• Reduces the cost to maintain balanced water chemical levels

While the pools are drained, we are taking the opportunity to perform additional upgrades to pool lighting, grab rails, steps, and drains.

During the temporary closure, Parks and Recreation will be working closely with current management at both the Swim Center and the Cavanagh pool to transition all day-to-day operations of the pool to the City’s Parks and Recreation Department. In the coming months, the City will be soliciting feedback from the community and sharing updates regularly on aquatics offerings through our website, our bi-monthly newsletters, and at regular meetings of the Recreation, Music, and Parks Commission.

Project Update

January 30, 2025 - We are excited to share we will soon begin upgrades at the Petaluma Swim Center! Since closing to the public on January 8, our team has been hard at work behind the scenes, checking the final items off our pre-construction checklist. Construction is anticipated to begin in early February with a grand reopening tentatively scheduled for late spring 2025!

How to Stay Informed + Provide Feedback

Stay informed and provide input on elements of the program as they are developed over the next year by attending an upcoming Recreation, Music, and Parks Commission meeting. The agendas for these meetings will be posted the Friday before each meeting.
