Denman Reach
Denman Reach is a 24.7-acre open space area hidden along a narrow stretch of the Petaluma River, offering sweeping views of the river corridor. While park amenities are limited, the Petaluma River Trail runs through Denman Reach via a partially paved pathway, complemented by various unpaved trails throughout the area. A small trailhead parking lot is located near the Straus Family Creamery, off Industrial Way.
In 2016, the City of Petaluma undertook grading and excavation along the banks of the Petaluma River within Denman Reach to reduce flood impacts, improve water quality, and enhance both aquatic and terrestrial habitats. The project involved grading along the northeastern upland bank to expand the top-of-bank area, creating a floodplain terrace designed to support riparian and floodplain plantings. This effort is part of the City’s proactive approach to mitigating flooding within the Petaluma Watershed. It aligns with the development of a river and creekfront trail system envisioned in the City’s 1996 River Access and Enhancement Plan and further outlined in the General Plan 2025.
