WHAT WE DO
Our Planning Division is a full-service team. We cover long range planning where we facilitate community efforts to craft a future vision of Petaluma or specific areas of the City. We also review development proposals, ensuring that proposed projects comply with Petaluma’s long term vision and regulatory standards . We also make sure that development respects the City’s historic and cultural heritage, and/or contribute the City’s growing collection of public artwork. And finally, we provide environmental review services ensuring that both development entitlements and the City’s visionary plans adhere to the standards of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
The scope of our work requires multi-disciplinary collaboration with a number of professionals, as well as working with YOU - our public! Our team also staffs the Planning Commission, Historic and Cultural Preservation Committee, and Public Art Committee. Please take a moment to check out their upcoming meeting agenda. Planning Manager Heather Hines' background is in urban planning and historic preservation, including over twenty years experience as a planning professional in Utah, Washington, and California. Heather has worked in the City of Petaluma since early 2010.
“My goal is to make Planning accessible to everyone and contribute to a healthy and sustainable Petaluma. As part of that effort, our team’s approach is to apply clear and straight-forward land use policies and programs so that anyone can participate."
