Hampton Inn Expansion (Silk Mill)

Project Description

The project proposes an Implementing Zoning Ordinance (IZO) Text Amendment to Chapter 11.040 (Alternatives to On-site Parking) to allow discretionary review of a proposed reduction to minimum required parking through the Conditional Use Permit process, subject to certain findings, and subject to a recommendation to City Council by the Planning Commission. The project also proposes an expansion to the Hampton Inn Hotel and a landmark tree designation, on a site formerly known as the Petaluma Silk Mill that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The expansion includes new construction of approximately 35-foot-tall rear addition with a building footprint of 8,566 square feet, a new stair landing, a new outdoor courtyard of 950 square feet, and improvements in lighting and landscaping. The addition would provide 18 new hotel guest rooms. Alterations to designated properties and the designation of a landmark tree are subject to review by the Historic & Cultural Preservation Committee (HCPC) pursuant to the city’s Implementing Zoning Ordinance (IZO) Chapter 15 Historic Preservation and the Secretary of the Interior Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
