Keller Street Parking Garage

Artist Ryan Petersen is painting a vibrant, colorful, large-scale mural on the Telephone Alley wall of the Keller Street Parking Garage. The first phase of the project started Summer of 2020 on the northeastern corner of the Keller Street Garage and the Golden Concourse and was completed later that year. In 2021, the City of Petaluma's Public Art Committee approved an expansion of the mural down the entire eastern wall of the garage to Western Avenue.

Ryan is an artist from Petaluma. His mural design is an abstract landscape of Petaluma and Sonoma County. The northern portion of the mural depicts a soft sunset that glows over rolling hills inspired by our local landscape, warming the corner of the garage to passing viewers. With the expanded mural, Telephone Alley draws attention from all around to investigate the colored composition that Petersen has created -- transitioning from a loose, abstracted showcase of quiet shapes and building in movement and color as you venture further down the alley like a musical score.

The mural was commissioned by the City of Petaluma's Public Art Committee to help beautify the downtown streetscape and contribute to an engaging environment for residents and visitors. The mural will help provide positive attention to the Keller Street Garage and Telephone alley, deterring graffiti and encouraging use of the alley as a pedestrian corridor.

Ryan observes, “I am a local artist with a passion to beautify my hometown, support local business, and provide welcoming and safe spaces for the people who live and visit here.”

The final mural design is projected to be complete by the end of 2021.
