I Street Speed Cushions

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

In response to neighborhood concerns about safety and speeding on I Street, the City of Petaluma plans to enhance previously installed safety improvements near the city limit. These upgrades will benefit all road users.

Scheduled improvements:

  • Installation of rubber speed cushions (sometimes referred to as “speed humps” or “speed tables”)

Rubber speed cushions have been studied and proven to slow traffic without impacting the movement of public safety vehicles like fire trucks and ambulances.

PROJECT HISTORY

In 2023, the City installed a variety of traffic calming elements on I Street including a speed radar feedback sign, buffered bike lanes, narrowed vehicular travel lanes, and speed gradation markings.
